Cheesy Kielbasa Skillet (Printable)

Smoky kielbasa with potatoes, vegetables, and melted cheddar in one hearty skillet.

# What goes in:

→ Meats

01 - 12 oz kielbasa sausage, sliced into ½-inch rounds

→ Vegetables

02 - 1 large yellow onion, chopped
03 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
04 - 2 cups baby potatoes, thinly sliced
05 - 1 red bell pepper, diced
06 - 1 cup broccoli florets

→ Dairy

07 - 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
08 - 2 tbsp unsalted butter

→ Seasonings

09 - ½ tsp smoked paprika
10 - ½ tsp dried oregano
11 - Salt and black pepper, to taste

→ Garnish

12 - 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

# Directions:

01 - Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the butter and allow it to melt completely, coating the bottom of the pan.
02 - Add the sliced kielbasa to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for about 4 minutes, turning once, until both sides are golden brown. Remove the sausage from the pan and set aside.
03 - In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and sliced potatoes. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes begin to soften and develop a light crust.
04 - Stir in the minced garlic, diced bell pepper, and broccoli florets. Sauté for 3 to 4 minutes until fragrant and the vegetables begin to tenderize.
05 - Return the browned kielbasa to the skillet. Sprinkle smoked paprika, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper over the mixture. Toss everything together until evenly combined.
06 - Reduce heat to low. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly across the top of the skillet mixture. Cover with a lid and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted and the potatoes are fork-tender.
07 - Remove from heat and garnish with fresh chopped parsley. Serve immediately while hot.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • One pan means you get all the comfort of a casserole without the mountain of dishes afterward.
  • The cheese melts directly over everything in the skillet, creating those irresistible golden patches that make people forget their manners.
02 -
  • If your potato slices are thicker than a quarter inch they will not cook through in time, so slice thin or expect a crunchy surprise in the middle.
  • Covering the skillet for the cheese melting step also steam finishes the vegetables, so keep that lid on and be patient.
03 -
  • Resist the temptation to stir the kielbasa constantly while browning, because the fond that builds on the bottom of the pan is where half the flavor lives.
  • Shred your own cheese from a block rather than buying pre shredded, since the anti caking powder on bagged cheese prevents it from melting into that smooth, gooey blanket you want.
